The National Centre for Laboratory Research and Risk Assessment has been authorised to function as the national reference laboratory for animal health

The Minister of Regional Affairs Mr Madis Kallas authorised the National Centre for Laboratory Research and Risk Assessment (LABRIS) to act as the national reference laboratory in 12 areas of animal health.

Since April 6th 2024, LABRIS has been designated as the national reference laboratory for the following European Union reference laboratories:

  • Bluetongue;
  • Classical swine fever;
  • African swine fever;
  • Brucellosis;
  • Foot and mouth disease;
  • Rabies;
  • Effectiveness of rabies vaccination;
  • Bee health, especially for American foulbrood, nosemosis, acarapisosis, and varroosis;
  • Newcastle disease;
  • Avian influenza;
  • Fish diseases, especially viral hemorrhagic septicaemia (VHS) and infectious hematopoietic necrosis (IHN);
  • Diseases of horses, especially dourine, glanders, infectious anemia, and contagious equine metritis.

In all the listed areas, LABRIS (until December 31, 2022, the Veterinary and Food Laboratory) has been operating as a national reference laboratory also in previous years.
